Two week holiday for all government departments; Banks will be closed; restaurant, health clubs banned

The government of Kuwait, in an extraordinary session Wednesday, decided to suspend work in all government departments as of tomorrow Thursday, to be resumed on Sunday March 29, the government spokesman said.

Tareq Al-Mezrem, in a news conference announcing the decision, said the Council of Ministers considered this period as an official holiday. He added the government assigned Deputy Premier, Minister of Interior and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Anas Al-Saleh to coordinate with Ministry of Health and relevant authorities to make sure vital sectors work normally.

The Kuwait Banking Association informed that all Banks will be closed during this period with the opening of one branch of each bank in each governorate. The bank will continue to provide services electronically through their website and mobile app. Cash will be available in all ATMs and customer service will be available through telephone.

The government also decide to ban the gatherings at restaurant and cafes, including those inside the mall and also to close all health clubs and sports clubs.

The government’s decision is part of the state’s efforts to confront spread of coronavirus, also known as COVID19.
